Metropolitan Regatta

The Metropolitan Regatta was held on the 2000 metres course at Dorney Lake in fine weather.

Saturday 30th May 2009

Our IM1.4- crew of Rich Woods, Tim Barnett, Daniel Brawn and Ben Rodford raced in division A. They finished first of the six crews in their heat, returning a time of 7mins 16secs to progress to the final. They came fifth in the final with a time of 7mins 18secs against the winning time of 6mins 57secs attained by Nottingham RC.

Our other IM1.4- crew of Jonathan Garner, Andrew Jones, Martin Jones and Russell Thornton were in division B. They had a time of 8mins 2secs and took fourth place in their heat and did not qualify for the final.

Our crew rowing in IM3.4+ was David Pollard, Toby Venn, Mike Lacey and Sam Thornton coxed by Rosie Jones. They returned a time of 7mins 44secs just a quarter of a second slower than Exeter University who took second place in the heat and so denied our crew a place in the final.

Sunday 31st May 2009

Rich Woods, Tim Barnett, Daniel Brawn and Ben Rodford again rowed in IM1.4- as Gloucester A crew. In the quarter final they produced a time of 6mins 50secs to take third place of the five boats and qualified for the semi final. Their time in the semi was 7mins 8secs giving them fifth place of the six crews.

Our crew of David Pollard, Toby Venn, Mike Lacey and Sam Thornton also entered IM1.4-, moving up two levels. In their quarter final they produced a time of 6mins 54secs in a close race to take fourth place. Gloucester were the last of three boats all finishiing within 1.2 seconds of each other.
