Nottingham City Regatta

Saturday 25th April 2009

We had two crews entered in the Nottingham City Regatta which is held at the National Watersports Centre, Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham. Our J18 4x crew consisted of Sam Thornton, Ben Marshall, Lyndon Cook and Dave Pollard. The senior crew racing in Intermediate 1 4- was Ben Rodford, Dan Braun, Tim Barnett and Rich Woods.

The J18 4x crew were in lane three of the six lane 2000m course and were up against Nottingham RC and Derby/Burton. Nottingham won the event in 6 mins 53 secs with our quad taking second place in 7mins 2secs.

There were seven crews entered in Intermediate 1 4- in the afternoon division. Our crew were in lane four in heat 1 competing with three other boats. We won the heat with a time of 5mins 44secs. Bedford RC coming second with a time of 5mins 53secs

The final of IM1 4- was contested by six boats. At the 500m mark Gloucester were lying third behind Burton Leander and Tyne RC but then steadily pulled ahead of them to be in the lead at the 1000m mark and went on to further increase their lead to win with a time of 7mins 25.9secs - over seven seconds ahead of Burton Leander in second place.

The results at Nottingham are a brilliant start to the regatta season for the club. The J18 crew with Ben Marshall joining them did very well to take second place while our established senior four are continuing their very successful run.
