Head of the River Race

The Head of the River Race is on the Championship course on the Tideway from Mortlake to Putney. The race is for eights at all levels: Elite, Lightweight, S1, S2, S3, S4 and Novice with 409 crews taking part altogether this year. Gloucester had two crews in this large, prestigous event.
Our crew in S2 8+ was Dan Braun, Ben Rodford, Rich Woods, Tim Barnett, Graeme Hill, Toby Venn, Sam Thornton, Jon Garner coxed by Rosie Jones. They covered the course in 19mins 18secs compared with the winning time of Durham University 18mins 14secs. Their time put them in position 42 of the 81 entrants in S2.
Our S3 8+ crew was Russell Thornton, Martin Jones, Andy Jones, Lyndon Cook, Mark Venn, Lee Godsell, Dave Pollard, Paul Brooker with Ed Jones coxing. They achieved a time of 20mins 12secs to attain position 71 of the 91 entrants in S3. Bristol University won S3 in a time of 18mins 39secs.

Our Vet C crew of Russell Thornton, Martin Jones, Andy Jones, Steve Lowe, Mark Venn, Paul Brooker, Lee Godsell, Jonathan Garner coxed by Ed Jones raced over the championship courseon Sunday. They were 21st in VetC 8+ out of 41 entrants in the event, with a time of 21mins 42secs. The event winning time was 19mins 59secs by UL Tyrian. Over all they were 75th out of 176
