Gloucester Rowing Challenge

(aka "The Pubs and Clubs Regatta")

The rowing challenge has been run every year since 1985. Local clubs, pubs, friends and businesses are invited to put forward crews consisting of four oarsmen/women and a Cox who receive five one hour coaching sessions before entering the regatta to compete for the Gloucester Invitation challenge Trophy.

To take part in the regatta, this is what you do:

  1. Persuade four people to do the rowing and one person to steer and cheer (The Cox). Set a good example by volunteering your services.
  2. If your powers of persuasion are irresistable, get more than one crew to take part - even have a mens' crew and a womens' crew. (Mixed crews are OK and row in the mens' event).
  3. Down load and fill in the application form and send it to the boat club at the address above (or email it to pubsnclubs@gloucester-rowing.org).
  4. You will then be allocated a coach who will hone your style and technique to almost Olympian levels over 5 weekly outings (each is about 1 hour long).
  5. Bring along your friends and family to watch: a licenced bar will be available as well as a barbeque and, for the really thirsty, Pimms.
  6. Visit this site after the regatta - we should have some photos posted. The gallery link to the left will have a few from previous years, just to show what a splendid time is had by all at this event.
