Rules of Navigation – additions
The New Canal Cut and Netheridge Bridge.

The New Canal Cut at Netheridge, which was opened on 27th April 2006, has smoothed out the very sharp Z bend at 2 Mile Cut – the first bend as you head from the Club house towards Sharpness or as you return from Sims bridge to the club house.

The width of the canal under the New Swing Bridge (Netheridge Bridge) is only wide enough to take one craft at a time so extra vigilance is needed, as it is not easy to see clearly unless you are in mid channel. (even though the bridge across the new cut will be the second largest swing road bridge in the country!)

As you head from the club the New Canal Cut reduces from 40m wide to 10m over a distance of 100m. At Netheridge Bridge the 10m reduced width runs for 50m before opening up to 30m.

Remember priority to boats returning to the club / going to the docks.

Below the two pictures is a link to show the plan, which shows the narrow minded cut under the New Bridge.
