Committee Meeting, 23rd May 2005
These notes cover the main points that were discussed at the meeting, a full set of minutes will be posted in the Clubhouse about 2 weeks after the meeting. Captain's Report Gill reported that there are increasing numbers of people rowing which is leading to increasing pressure on equipment availability and increasing wear and tear. As a result it is likely that the equipment repair budget will be overspent this year. Some work needs to be done on the Burgashell singles. There have also been cases of equipment left at regattas. It was agreed that Senior crews and coaches of Junior crews would be reminded that they are responsible for equipment taken to regattas and would be expected to contribute towards the cost of any losses. We plan to erect additional racking in the car park to hold pub and club boats and thus free some space in the boathouse. Mr Cheeseman said that the launches regularly exceed the speed limit when out with the eight. We should instruct launch drivers as to where/when this is and is not acceptable. Gill will discuss guidance for launch drivers with the Rowing Committee. The clean-up weekend had gone well, it had been combined with checking the boats for the Pub and Club regatta. There are still one or two tidy up jobs that require attention but generally good progress has been made. The boat naming ceremony will be on sunday 12th June at 12.30. All members welcome. Wins: Evesham Regatta (Sat) S3 2- Aaron Squire and Graeme Hill (non-qualifying) S2 2- Paul Hanagan and Giles Houghton (Qualifying) S2 4+ Paul Hanagan, Giles Houghton, Andy Grant and Graeme Hill (Cox not known!) Membership Membership cards have been produced and are being distributed. The following new members were approved: Rachael Britnell, Rachel Pratley, Susie Amann (all senior), Aubrey Keyse (Coach/Cox), Henry Tapsell, William Campion, Timothy Campion, Terri Hill, Megan Hill (all Junior U16). Fund Raising The 24 hour erg raised £1621 (half to go to the Club) and the Promises Auction had raised £1392. In addition to the £2200 raised we will be able to claim Gift Aid on some of the donations. Miss Ross and her team were thanked for the effort that they had put into these events. Miss Ross commented that the Promises Auction had been a lot of work but had been worthwhile. The May Ball had been cancelled because insufficient tickets had been sold 2 weeks before and we had not wished to run the risk of incurring further costs. Future events include the Pub and Club Regatta and a treasure Hunt in June. Futures Committee The new lease on our current site has been signed. The Council has sent a draft contract for the purchase of the land for the new boathouse. There was further discussion of possible constitutional change, inlcuding whether parents of Juniors under 16 (who are a quarter of the membership) should be given proxy votes. It is hoped to arrange a Special General Meeting in September to deal with any proposed changes so that changes in the committee structure are in place before the AGM. Regatta Preparations for the Regatta are starting. (All members should note the date - Saturday 27th August - and be prepared to help set up on Friday, run the event on Saturday and clear up on Sunday.) Publicity Due to the lack of a publicity officer - offers welcome - coaches are to be asked to submit articles to the Citizen about their own crews. AOB Lost Property: Cath Pollard will clear the Club of kit that had been abandoned and, if not claimed within a couple of weeks, dispose of it. Clubhouse: Mark said that members are reverting to old habits and leaving the Clubroom in an untidy state. He asked the Committee to encourage better habits. Date of next meeting: Monday 18th July 2005 at 7.30pm |
